About The Legacy Project

Building a Brighter Future Together

The Legacy Project of Stark is dedicated to transforming communities and impacting lives through the power of high-quality mentorship opportunities, leadership development, and intentional partnerships. We aim to place identified Stark County students in age-appropriate, high-quality mentorship programs in collaboration with their local school districts and community partners.

Founded in 2015 by Eugene Lingenhoel, The Legacy Project of Stark began with a vision to support students in need. After delivering supplies to Lehman Middle School in Canton, Ohio, Eugene was invited to mentor students, leading him to leave his sales career and pursue full-time mentorship. He partnered with Jenn Warner, who developed the organization’s curriculum, and together, they began recruiting adult volunteer mentors. Since then, the organization has grown to serve over 9,250 students with the help of approximately 800 volunteer mentors across Stark County.

Why We Do What We Do

The Values we Live By

At The Legacy Project of Stark, we are guided by core values that shape our approach to mentorship

Teachable

We are open to feedback, eager to learn, and humble in our growth.

Driven By Relationships

We build trust, lead with empathy, and invest in people.

Consistent

We show up reliably, follow through, and model integrity every day.

Strength-Based Empowerment

We believe every person has unique strengths, talents and potential. We approach every interaction with respect, curiosity and the belief that growth is possible.

Mentorship Opportunities

Helping students succeed and grow

At The Legacy Project of Stark, we believe every young person deserves someone in their corner — a trusted guide who listens, encourages, and believes in them. That’s where you come in. By becoming a mentor, you’re not just supporting a student — you’re investing in the future of Stark County. Whether it’s offering advice, sharing life experiences, or simply showing up consistently, mentors create lasting impact.

Why consider mentoring?

01

Support Growth

Help students build confidence, resilience, and leadership skills.

02

Build Relationships

Provide a safe, steady presence in a young person’s life.

03

Give Back

Strengthen your community by guiding the next generation.

What We Offer the Community

Our Programs

We offer a range of programs designed to address key challenges and provide tangible solutions for communities in need. Each program is carefully crafted to meet specific needs, foster growth, and create lasting change:

Through our small group mentoring sessions, students are given a consistent, supportive space where they feel seen, heard, and valued. These relationships help students develop self-worth and build the emotional strength to navigate challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Learn About School-Based Programming

Our community-based programs support students in grades 4–12 with consistent mentoring, engaging experiences, and meaningful connections.

At the core is REMIX—our out-of-school-time mentoring program where high school students serve as near-peer mentors alongside caring adults. Together, they create safe spaces where younger students grow in confidence, build strong relationships, and develop real-world skills.
